Bujar Alimani was born on January 27, 1969 in Patos, Albania. He studied painting and stage directing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana.

In 1992 he immigrated to Greece, where he worked as an assistant director on several Greek films.

In 2002, his first short film the KENNEL won the Best Balkan Film Award at the IFF Drama,Greece and the Best Albanian Short Film Award at the Tirana IFF in 2003.

From 2008 until present he establish his film company 90 Production.

AMNESTY (2011) is his debut feature film and won the C.I.C.A.E. Award in the Forum section of the 2011 Berlinale Film Festival. His film participated in 80 additional film festivals around the globe of which he won 13 additional awards.

Alimani’s feature Amnesty was part of the MoMA Global Lens, USA (2012)

His second feature film, CHROMIUM (2015), a co-production between Albanian, Kosovo, Germany and Greece, had a worldwide premiere at Karloff Vary IFF.

His film THE DELEGATION (2018) won the Grand Prix at Warsaw IFF.

Lastly, The Albanian Virgin(2021) had the biggest co- production ever between Albania, Germany, Kosovo, Belgium.

Three of Bujar Alimani’s films were Albania’s official submissions for the Academy Award (Oscar) for Best Foreign Language Film.

Bujar’s new feature film, Ballet Maestro is scheduled to begin shooting in early 2027.

He currently lives and works between New York & Europe.
